Next stop: Lithuania. We decided to skip Vilnius (too close to the border with Belarus for our liking) and visit Lithuania’s second city, Kaunas, instead.
French speakers, please note that it’s pronounced « cahot-nasse », not the other way.
(Non-French speakers: it sounds like a rude word if you pronounce it the way it looks in French).
Kaunas is a university town with one of the longest pedestrian streets in Europe, an interesting mix of architectural styles, and a LOT of cafés, which is Very Important for translation work purposes. Note that I had a couple of big work projects on the go at this point, meaning there are fewer pictures than usual...
A few highlights :
- Raph made friends with a statue

- Sophie acquired a replacement doudou after losing her elephant (bébéphant) in Estonia
- Jam tea: not tea with jam in it, Russian style, but jam dissolved in boiling water to make a drink
- Finding yet another excellent “papa park” (outdoor exercise equipment) and discreetly watching a Vladimir Putin lookalike doing his pull-ups
- Discovering yet another variety of dumplings : potato-based this time. (We have eaten some local dumpling variant in every country since Denmark. This is starting to become a theme).
Next stop: not where we initially planned!
